Capta hydro was founded in Santiago, Chile in 2015 with the goal of developing innovative solutions that help solve important environmental problems, from Chile to the world.

We want to be leaders in the development of innovative solutions that help improve water management in rural areas.

As a consequence of being in constant contact with irrigation canal administrators in Chile, we learned that their first and foremost priority was the need to improve the efficiency of their water delivery systems. After researching the market and problem, we decided to focus on developing telemetry and gate automation solutions designed specifically for the developing world.

Why do we need to improve water management?

Climate Change and

Water Scarcity

Climate Change is a reality to which all society will have to adapt, in particular because of its impact on water availability.

Temperature increases, rainfall reductions and glacial meltdown are happening in parallel with an increase in water demand due to demographic and economic growth, worsening water scarcity in our basins, countries and regions.

Inefficiency and lack of information

Superficial waters, that currently irrigate more than 160 million hectares globally, are distributed mainly through irrigation canals. But, water losses are typically between 25% and 50%, because of (un measured) filtrations in earth-lined canals, theft, operational mistakes and inefficiencies generated due to supply-based vs demand-based water delivery.

High cost of traditional solutions

The constant monitoring of the flow - plus an effective system of configurable alerts - will allow for the detection of issues in the delivery of water in real time, minimizing losses and errors.

Integrated Water Resource Management and the Sustainable Development Goals

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) defines Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) as “a process that promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems and the environment”

Capta Hydro is committed to delivering innovative solutions that will facilitate the implementation of IWRM processes at a local, national and regional level, thus helping the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) N˚2 and N˚6
